The importance of the right vehicles in Ethiopia

Great 4 wheel drive vehicles.

Cars located in Addis Ababa, Gonder, Bahir Dar or Arba Minch

Regardless of whether you’re flying into Addis Ababa for a brief break or a full tour, Ethiopian Adventures can offer you the perfect vehicle for your visit.

Vehicle Type:

We use two types of vehicles – Toyota Land Cruisers and Toyota Hilux Hardtops. When we go ‘off-road’ we generally take the Land Cruisers.

We never use white vans with the exception of our hotel shuttle buses. This is very important – who wants a vacation in a white van?

The Land Cruisers are adapted for driving in Ethiopia. We are the only tour company in Ethiopia to have modern, properly converted Land Cruisers with individual reclining seats, fridge, larger windows for better photography and 230v and USB charging sockets for every seat. Technically they have 11 spring improved suspension to rear and coil suspension on the front wheels. For more comfort or for longer drives, modern Hilux cars are more suitable. They are of course still four-wheel drive for the occasional moment when clients require to leave the main roads. Our business is to supply you with all you need so as to go in comfort and with genuine feelings of serenity.

The importance of the correct tourism vehicles in Ethiopia

Meeting the requirements of modern day safari travel.

Ethiopia is a land of geographical contrasts and vehicles have to operate efficiently both on asphalt roads as well as off-road conditions. Our vehicles are fully equipped for national parks so that your clients obtain maximum enjoyment when they visit the country. Once back on the asphalt, there are sometimes some long journeys and this is where the extra space in our vehicles allows them to recline the seats and travel in more comfort.

More space

Fundamentally these vehicles are longer and higher than ordinary four-wheel drives. The seating provides social-distancing should pandemics reoccur or legislation state that people should not sit close together. These vehicles do away with the rear bench seat. This avoids the person in the middle having an uncomfortable ride. It also avoids the awkward situation where an extra guide or passenger decides to squeeze in next to the clients.

Raised windscreens

The windows open wide for photography. In national parks where it is not wise to leave the vehicle, clients really appreciate the possibility of wide windows.
The seats are staggered and the windcreen is enlarged which is the reason for the extra height of the vehicle. This means that the clients see over the heads of the driver and guide so they never miss seeing the animal or bird that passes in front of the car.

Client comfort

Every vehicle has a fridge for cool drinks while travelling. There are also double USB ports and a 230-volt socket at every seat so that cameras and phones can be charged while traveling.

Sunroof

All of our vehicles have sunroofs for guides. Some have full sunroofs for animal watching whilst the rest have roof racks. It depends on where we are going and how much carry reclining seats.equipment we have to carry.

Performance

It is not just the inside of the vehicles that matters. The whole technical aspect of our vehicles is thought out to give a comfortable, high-performance ride. The wheel and tyre sizes are larger to give a smoother ride on rough roads. For the vehicles that we use in the desert areas of the country, we have enhanced air conditioning in the rear of the vehicles through six vents near the ceiling. Clients can adjust the temperature and air-flow to suit themselves.

Double Tanks

Each vehicle has an extra 70 litre sub-tank. This gives the vehicles a range of 1200km which is sometimes necessary on very long trips or when fuel is not always in plentiful supply. For example, when we travel to the west of the Omo valley to visit the very remote tribes, it means that we can travel the whole length of the south of the country in areas where there are no fuel stations.

Heavy duty suspension

The vehicles have heavy-duty suspension and upgraded shock absorbers for off-road conditions. All of the body is protected from impacts. Tow bars are added should the car need winching. There are two spare tyres instead of the normal one. ABS brakes are standard. White-line tracking is available on the latest models.
